Stay Curious – “Kirby”

What is Kirby?

Kirby is a flat-file CMS based on text files and assets organized in nested folders. No database needed. That makes it really easy to install and to work with in the first place.

All content is stored in files and folders within the content folder. Each folder you create represents a page that is accessible via its own URL.

If you create a folder called blog as direct child of the content folder, it will be accessible via https://yourdomain.com/blog etc.

Is Kirby Future-Proof?

The team behind Kirby is small. Do I have to fear, that I now start working for my clients using Kirby and at some point I am left alone with a CMS that is not supported anymore?

No. Kirby is around for such a long time now and constantly improved by the team behind it. On their website you can also read:

Typical client projects don't finish after launch. Kirby helps you grow and extend projects. Your developers can create new page types, templates, landing pages and custom features anytime. It's important to know for you and your clients that there will be no unexpected road-blocks in the future.

Well, even more with the latest features in version 3.6.

Is Kirby Expensive (to buy and to run)?

Kirby's requirements are very low. Your clients can either keep their cheap hosting or you can get started with low hosting costs for them and scale up if required. Don't waste money on complex setups and system administration. You can update Kirby within minutes. With our regular bi-monthly release cycle, we save your team from update stress. This keeps maintenance costs low.
